* circa 1896 - note: Ukrainia, Odessa Story of the emigration: Anselmo and Dora ran away from Odessa (possibly before 1896 but it's not sure).
According to a family lore, they escaped a pogrom. Basie used to tell that they were friends of the "Pope". He alerted them that there would be a pogrom on the night and they ran away with several families.
It was dangerous. They had to cross a river.
When they arrived to the port that would bring them to "America" someone told "Anselmo" that in the USA all women become prostitutes.
As they had 3 daughters, they decided to go to Argentina.
As a note of color, Dora cut her hair very short as was the fashion at the time just before boarding the vessel. * on November 1st, 1910 - note: Argentina, Colonia Yerua, Provincia de Entre Rios Marriage record Sanie and Sprenie Sitcoff 1 * on November 1st, 1910 - note: Argentina, Colonia Yerua, Provincia de Entre Rios Marriage record Sanie and Sprenie Sitcoff 2 * on October 3rd, 1914 - note: Argentina, Bergara, Provincia de Entre Rios Birth record Maria Sitcoff * on June 4th, 1914 - note: Argentina, Bergara, Provincia de Entre Rios Birth record Clara Sitcoff * on August 26th, 1917 - note: Argentina, San Salvador, Provincia de Entre Rios Birth record Rebeca Kahn * on July 19th, 1919 - note: Argentina, Godoy Cruz, Provincia de Mendoza Birth record Emilio Flitt * on June 4th, 1920 - note: Argentina, San Salvador, Provincia de Entre Rios Birth record Isidro Sitcoff * on July 19th, 1920 - note: Argentina, San Salvador, Provincia de Entre Rios Birth record Osias Sitcoff * on November 14th, 1923 - note: Argentina, Bergara, Provincia de Entre Rios Birth record Juan Sitcoff |
